About Us

Hi I'm Megan - chef and founder of Gourmet Girl on the Go

I offer private chef services, event planning and cooking classes in the Aspen Valley

and beyond.

I love food and travel and sought to start a business combining my love of both.

My clients are local and international & many families I have cooked with for over 10 years

in Colorado and their homes around the world.

I love connecting with families and celebrating milestones as their kids grow up.

To me good food is prepared with the best quality freshest ingredients, and shared amongst

family and friends.  Its made with care and purpose, sourcing responsibly and taking into

consideration the great seasonal produce we enjoy in Colorado, and of course my client dietary requests.

HISTORY

I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa.  Delicious home cooked meals were always enjoyed around the family dinner table.  My Mom, a high school culinary teacher, always encouraged me to cook, as long as I cleaned up!

My Dad & brother instilled a love of the outdoors, and this has inspired me to pursue a number of outdoor activities that Colorado is famous for - incorporating gourmet treats on my outdoor adventures - much to my trailmates delight.

The outdoors and my love of nature really inspires me, and I love to incorporate nature into any table setting or decor to set the tone for the food to come.

I originally studied Information Technology and Business, before taking a gap year which included being a chalet chef in the French Alps for 2 seasons.  I wanted to ski, so I learnt lots of shortcuts, that I use today in my classes - sharing with students as part of my teaching philosophy "Maximum impact, minimum effort".

My first culinary entrepreneurial adventure arose out of necessity - starting a muffin business (in addition to my management consultant career) to fund an unexpected appendicitus surgery.  Muffins are still a favorite on our brunch and breakfast menus.

I am a traveler at heart - believing that food is a universal connector extending beyond language.  I love incorporating the flavors of my travels into my dishes, and shopping at local markets, wherever in the world I find myself.

I was fortunate to co-create and host 10 culinary tours to France (Provence & Bordeaux), Spain (Penedes Region), Italy (Tuscany), South Africa (Cape Town), California (Sonoma) and Oregon (Ashford) - coordinating logistics and culinary experiences for small groups up to 14 guests at a time.

From 2011-2016 I worked with the Aspen Food and Wine Classic as the Grand Tasting Catering Manager, for 6 years, refining my logistics and communication skills in large event settings.

In 2018 & 2019 I was privileged to work as America's Test Kitchen Culinary Host onboard Holland America - sailing from Alaska, to the South Pacific, Carribbean, Europe, Iceland, Panama Canal, central America, and more spending over 300 days onboard, across 5 ships.

During this time I hosted a live 45 minute cooking show for audiences of up to 300 guests at a time, cooking some test kitchen classics, on a moving ship, where anything can happen.

In 2021 I worked again with the Aspen Food and Wine Classic as the Best New Chefs Coordinator - a fantastic opportunity to see the most cutting edge new chefs creating in front of me.

I look forward to working with you to create your own memories, in the Aspen Valley or wherever we travel to.
